Ash @ A Step in the Right Direction
Time for another installment of Weigh In Wednesday!
The Weigh In
Gained 1/2 pound this week. :( So essentially no change in the last two weeks. Even though I'm getting workouts in (only recently), I'm doing a terrible job of tracking. I usually end up tracking for breakfast and lunch but give up by dinner time. Most of all, I have been abusing my plain greek yogurt and shredded cheese - I'm addicted to sour cream and I put it on everything (baked potatoes, omelettes, chili, etc.) same goes for cheese. BAD! So tracking is essential and must start happening!

Exhibit A |
The good news! After classes today, I have a free fitness assessment at my gym scheduled. I'll let you know my results! They will put a workout plan together based on my goals and help assess what I need to be focusing on! I can't wait! I need some direction in my life.
Giveaways
As of today, I have THREE giveaways going on at one time! Rather than post all the Rafflecopters here, just click on the links below to visit the giveaways!
That's a lot of monies!
A (short) list of what you could do with all that moolah:
Get your hair did// Massage at the spa// Date night// Girl's night out// New clothes for your rockin' bod// Pay off your credit card bill // Donate to the "Heather's a poor med student fund" // Donate to your church // Personal training sessions // ...60 bottles of wine.
"Sweat"tember Challenge
I joined ANOTHER Dietbet - if I'm gonna lose weight, I might as well get paid TWICE for it. You can do the same here. But to supplement those efforts, I wanted to create a new "challenge" for myself that some of you will hopefully want to join in on!
For September, I'm pledging to "sweat" EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It can be anything - walk, run, yoga, weights, headstands, whatever - we just have to MOVE! My reason for doing this is obviously to keep the weight loss up but also because of something I've noticed over the past few weeks - I learn better after I exercise.
Exercise is so much more than looking good - it's about feeling good too! Specifically exercise has 7 amazing effects according to this article from the Harvard School of Public Health:
1. It reverses the effects of stress
2. It lifts depression
3. It improves learning
4. It builds self-esteem & improves body image
5. It leaves you feeling euphoric (umm...I guess?)
6. It keeps the brain fit
7. It may keep Alzheimer's at bay.
All of those benefits sounds pretty good to me! Med students are very suseptible to depression, anxiety, and burn out - while I'm not quite as neurotic as some people I know, I'm certainly I'm not immune to this. I find myself getting kind of sad after a few hours of studying - I miss the human contact and I'm not a big fan of sitting in one place for eternity.
So...let's do this! Who's with me??? If you'd like to join me, I'm thinking about doing a link up on Sundays - Sweatember Sundays! Throughout the week, document your sweat sessions (because if it isn't on Instagram, it didn't happen :) ) using #sweatemberPSM so everyone can see it and get ideas/share support.
Comment below if interested and share the challenge with friends and family!
Have ya ever tried subbing out sour cream for plain greek yogurt? Their tastes are pretty similar, but you get way more benefits from greek yogurt than sour cream! Sounds weird, but you should definitely give it a try!
ReplyDeleteHey girl! Just found your blog yesterday! I, am a student (chiropractic student) ...so I completely understand your struggles with eating and getting workouts in. Because after a full day at school, work still continues at home. I love your "sweat"ember idea! I'm an infrequent blogger..home girl just doesn't have the time. But I am on instagram- enanderson18
ReplyDeleteI am struggling right now too. I think I just need to change up my routine and I think September will bring that for me. I love the Sweatember idea! Nice play on words!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to hear how your assessment goes and girlfriend a half of a pound is nothing considering you just started a new school, stress, busy, etc. etc... HANG IN THERE HOOOKA!
ReplyDeleteIs sour cream that bad?? What if it is fat free sour cream? I'm like you, I slather that on everything!
ReplyDeleteI am in girlie! I am going to join Skinny Megs Dietbet I think. September is going to be my month!
ReplyDeleteI love sour cream, so I buy the fat free or light and use the serving size. I cannot get into the greek yogurt.
Sweatember sounds like fun! Too bad I'm not on Instagram.
ReplyDeletei think i could live on cheese and sour cream!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you about the cheese and sour cream "problem". Its tough when it's so yummy!
ReplyDeleteI so should sign up for another diet bet. I completed my first on at the beginning of August. Technically won about $13. I was really hoping for more, but hey that was pure profit from doing something I wanted to do regardless of a diet bet or not. So I guess it's a win! I like the Sweatember idea too.
ReplyDeleteThat was my suggestion too! Plain chobani greek yogurt is a great substitute for sour cream because it's (1) sour, (2) creamy, (3) white, and (4) has a lot more protein!
ReplyDeletePretty new to Weigh In Wednesdays, but I would love to do Sweatember Sundays too!
ReplyDelete"Sweat"ember sounds like a great challenge! Especially since I just started clerkship and will be so busy, this challenge sounds like an awesome idea for me to keep motivated.
ReplyDeleteAs for the tracking, it's tough! I find that if I plan out everything I'm going to eat the day before and have it tracked beforehand, it's much easier to stick to it. Good luck with it!
Oh! One more thing. I totally feel you on getting bummed out by all the studying. Something I like to do is switch it up in terms of studying location. If the library is starting to get to you, maybe studying at home in your jammies will feel good. Or if you feel lonely at home, maybe studying at a coffee shop (I personally love studying at coffee shops) would be a nice change of pace.
sweatember is just the challenge I need to get my bahookey in gear, I'll definately be joining you!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you for Sweatember! Let's do this!
ReplyDeleteDoes sweatember count just walking across campus from the parking lot to Van Nuys? Bc I'm always sweating afterwards damn 90 degree heat!
