Weigh In Wednesday June 18 - Bridal Bloat Edition

Wednesday, June 18, 2014

Hello everybody! Welcome to Weigh-In Wednesday!
Please go check out my sweet co-hosts!

Ash @ A Step in the Right Direction

 Erin @ She's A Big Star

I'm a married woman, y'all!

{I love everything about this}

Can I just say how HAPPY I am right now? The biggest stress of my life so far is over - everything went swimmingly and now we're back to "reality."

Reality hit HARD this morning when I weighed myself.  Starting with the rehearsal dinner and ending with tacos, fake cheese, & homemade margaritas last night, the past week has been a wedding-related free-for-all when it comes to food choices.

I'm just going to leave this here.

Yikes.

Weighing In
Height: 5'8"
SW: 236.2
Last week: 201.2
This week: 206
Change: + 4.8
Total Loss: -30.2

You will notice I'm using a new scale {wedding present}. I'm compared it to my old one - that one has me at 204 (I've compared before and I'm always 2 lbs heavier on the new scale). Regardless of which one is right, I'm going with the new one. It's probably more accurate.

The weight gain I expected - that part doesn't bother me because I know I can lose it. Feeling bloated, fatigued, and having tummy issues for the past few days has NOT been worth it, however. It's amazing how much BETTER you feel when you are eating clean and working out. Right now I feel like a big ole blueberry.

Today is a new day - the hubby, husband, Hubs, whatever - is back at work so it's time I get back to work as well. Eating clean and good old fashioned hard work.

{Good-bye friends}

{Good-bye Creamy Goodness}

This morning I went for a quick run - just a mile to gauge how my knees were feeling - it's been 1.5 weeks since my last half marathon and while the soreness has subsided, my knees are not feeling too friendly. Over the next week I'll be working back up to 3m-5m runs and sticking there for a while. No more long races until I start mini training up again in August.

My next big goal for running is the Monumental Half Marathon here in Indianapolis on November 1st.  I plan to start training again at the beginning of August so for the next two months, my goal is to really LEAN out so I will be faster and lighter for my next half. I know carrying extra weight is killer on my knees and I want to be able to run for a LONG time.  Lots of cardio, lots of weight lifting, and some yoga/flexibility for the rest of the summer.

{I should really work on my background choices}

Stay tuned for our wedding recap starting tomorrow - I have lots to share!

What are your fitness goals for the summer?
How do you bounce back from a big gain?

Weigh In Wednesday: April 23

Wednesday, April 23, 2014

Hello everybody! Welcome to Weigh-In Wednesday!
Please go check out my sweet co-hosts!

Ash @ A Step in the Right Direction

 Erin @ She's A Big Star

Sorry this post is late today! I'm nearing the end of my second semester of school - one month to go - so I have lots of exams and practicals coming up. Friday is the end of my Pulmonary block and then we end with Renal! I can't believe how quickly this year went - I've been in school since the beginning of August but it feels like I just started...how do I already know so many things and not know anything all at the same time?

If you read the last few posts, things have been going well with training for my mini. I ran my longest run EVER on Sunday - 12.25 miles!!! Now I'm going to taper the next two weeks - no more super long runs, just following my training schedule until May 4. Today calls for 5 miles so I'm going to do that as a study break this afternoon.

Now for the weigh in! Down another 2 lbs which means my scale isn't broken after all.  I'm getting SO close to my next goal - ONEDERLAND.  When I looked through MyFitnessPal, I realized I haven't been this weight since Summer 2011 - 6 months after my 21st B-day. We're getting there!

Weighing In
Height: 5'8"
SW: 236.2
Last week: 207.4
This week: 205.6
Loss: -1.8
Total Loss: -30.6

Other than fitness goals and school, I have a lot of other exciting things going on right now. Number one is that my fiancĂ© just got a job offer here in Indianapolis! We're very happy that he gets to stay with the same company he's been with since we graduated from college! The job is a great career opportunity for him and is perfect timing for us school and wedding-wise.

I'm EXTREMELY happy that Nick will finally be moving here next month! We'll have about a month before the wedding to get our new apartment settled since I will be moving out of my school apartment in mid-May. This whole year without him here has been really hard for us but I think it also gave us both a chance to grow individually before we come together as a family.

I know we'll have a lot to get used to since we've never lived together before! In college we both always had different living situations (except second semester of freshman year when we lived on the same dorm floor). I'm glad we never lived together previously because I'm excited to go through these new stages of life with him - learning to share household responsibilities, cooking dinner together, watching TV on OUR couch in OUR living room instead of our families houses, etc. I just so excited to finally be creating a life TOGETHER!

As far as wedding planning, nearly everything is complete. We have transportation, hotels, and all of the big stuff complete. Now we just need to meet with our priest one last time and make some decisions about what readings and songs we would like at the ceremony.

My mom has been a HUGE help getting decorations for our reception, specifically the Dessert Bar we are having instead of a cake table. Lots of glass wear, burlap, lace, vintage details, and cake stands (I have a weird obsession with cake stands and dessert displays - I don't even bake desserts!). So that's been really helpful.  I'm trying to get all the detail ducks in a row which is NOT my forte, what-so-ever. I'm definitely a big picture gal - which is probably why I'm attracted to primary care :).

The lady making our invitations (her and her husband are also our DJs for the wedding) posted this sneak peak of our invitations last night! I couldn't be more thrilled to see them!

Yesterday some sneaky friends of mine surprised me with patio furniture as an early bridal shower gift because I've been wanting somewhere to study when it's nice out! I feel so blessed to have kind, thoughtful friends. I was feeling pretty grumpy yesterday and their sweetness just turned that all around!

Finally, I just want to sign off with one of my favorite sayings these days. It's simple and to the point but I think hard work and being nice go a long way in this world. Have a great Wednesday!

What is your favorite quote or saying?

Pretty Strong Medicine

Hello everybody! Welcome to Weigh-In Wednesday!
Please go check out my sweet co-host!

Ash @ A Step in the Right Direction

If you're new to the link-up, please leave a comment & say hi!

It's been a pretty crappy few days here.  After thinking I had avoided illness and proclaiming that I "never get sick" while my fiancee and friends were under the weather, a nasty stomach flu struck me at 5 am on Monday morning.  I can honestly say I haven't felt that bad since I was a kid - it was the terrible, awful.  Once the vomiting and other stuff ended, I pretty much didn't move all day and subsisted on Sprite and water.  Fever finally broke in the middle of the night and by Tuesday I was feeling a lot better - just dizzy and a bad headache (presumably from dehydration).  Today I'm still achy (pretty much everywhere) and lethargic but I'm feeling much, much better so I'm hoping I can make up for lost time and get stuff done today!

Oh yeah, and I'm on Spring Break. whomp whomp. I didn't have any major plans for the week - just lots of doctor appointments - dentist, eye doc, etc. which I had to switch around. Wedding planning - I have my hair and makeup trial on Saturday which is when my friends will be coming for my Bachelorette Party! I was hoping to blog more but that seems to never workout.

The goodness in all this - weight loss!  Now I'm 90% sure this is due to losing water weight and not eating anything substantial for two days but a loss is a loss.

Height: 5'8"
Last week: 210.4 (two weeks ago)
This week: 208.5
Loss: -1.9
Total Loss: -27.7
BMI: 31.7

I realized that I never came back and updated last week - it was a crazy week.  I was just coming off of a cardiology exam and preparing for a practical.  Pretty sure I was at 211.5.

I don't really have much else to report so far because I haven't done much the past couple days. I am excited to be in the 200's - next stop is ONEderland!

I'm really worried about my half marathon training though.  The past two weeks I haven't been sticking to my schedule and I've had a couple really bad runs where I just struggled.  I was hoping to get back up to speed this week but I'm thinking it's not a great idea to try to run while I'm still rehydrating and feeling dizzy/headachy.  I think today I'll do a low-intensity workout at the gym, maybe walk/run on treadmill and see how I tolerate it.

I started compiling some wedding looks that I'm interested in! I would love your opinions!  I also decided that I'm going to keep my hair dark for the wedding. It's been a while since I had it blonde and I don't want to do anything drastic in such a short amount of time.

Hair
I have never had an up-do in my life so I don't really want to start at my wedding - I just don't think they would flatter my round face.  I love all of these looks!  Very flowy and laid-back but the braids and curls give structure.

Makeup
I love bold makeup and I love a beautiful red lip! I'm just not sure I want it for the wedding day but I'm strongly leaning that way.  I also love the more simplified smokey eye and nude lip - I would want to kick it up a few notches though since it's an evening wedding.

Thoughts? How do you get back into healthy eating and working out after being sick?

Weigh IN Wednesday

Hello everybody! Welcome to Weigh-In Wednesday!

Please go check out my sweet co-host!

Ash @ A Step in the Right Direction

If you're new to the link-up, please leave a comment!

Whoops...got to school today and realized I forgot to post! Sounds like a pretty regular event for me so I'm sure ya'll aren't surprised. Thank you for sticking with me over the past few months - I haven't been as interactive or up-to-date as I should be. I'm slowly getting into a good routine with school so I hope to be more active next semester!

The weeks are flying by! First, the weigh-in. It's week three of boot camp and I've officially lost the 5 lbs I've be cycling up and down with for the past two months ..hopefully by next week I'll be at a number I haven't seen since before my 21st birthday! (which I will be sharing!) That brings the grand total to 21.4 lbs lost!

In other news, on Monday I had my first "Final Exam" for Scientific Foundations. No more basic science classes (provided I passed...)!!!  We are starting our Hematology systems course which will include EVERYTHING about the blood and associated structures - pathology, histology, physiology, etc. I AM SO EXCITED! I'm ready to put the science I've learned into a clinical context and actually know "doctor things" instead of cell signaling pathways with little to no context. I'm ready to attack this material and kill it because Foundations was a struggle. (More about med school in a future post).

Anyway, last week was pretty much spent like this:

or this.

Can you say "struggle bus?" And now I'm in recovery mode. I took Monday evening off after the exam and now I'm back to the grind! I'm really sad because I'm officially three weeks behind on American Horror Story & The Walking Dead. Also behind on Grey's Anatomy and Scandal...#smh Any idea where I can find AHS or TWD online?

Despite the shambly life I lead, I did manage to get some great workouts in last week - boot camp on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, a couple beautiful runs, and two yoga classes.

This was my long run from last week. This week I need to bust out 5 miles so I know I'll be ready for Thanksgiving! I was super slow that day but I had to do some walking. My left foot has been bothering me lately - I'm thinking extensor tendontitis - mostly my 2nd metatarsal. It usually only bothers me on longer runs - at boot camp I'm typically fine, even during sprints. I'm hoping that with ice and rest, it'll be fine for the race!

I wish I would've taken pictures of yoga but I went to two classes last week! One of our classmates teaches yoga on Wednesday afternoons (fo free!) which is a great study break and way to relax - a few of the professors and other staff of the med school do it with us! I also tried a yoga studio in downtown Indy with a few classmates on Sunday. Unfortunately the hot yoga class was full so we just did the express un-heated class. I DEFINITELY prefer hot yoga but it was still a great experience and I'll be going back again for sure!

Eating is probably my biggest obstacle - I try to eat as well as possible but sometimes it gets hard. I feel like when I study, I'm ALWAYS hungry. Plus, I usually look forward to meals because I don't make myself study during meal breaks so I want ALL the food. Haha - I'm in no danger of starving so I need to calm it down.

Homeade Apple Cinnamon Walnut oatmeal!

Salmon and Orzo from Trader Joe's

A treat after the exam! (I didn't eat all the PB cups in one sitting...over three days, don't worry!)

Nothing new to report for Wedding Wednesday - just continuing to work hard and hopefully be ready for dress shopping in a month or so!

Have you ever had foot issues while running?

Weigh IN Wednesday

Hello everybody! Welcome to Weigh-In Wednesday!

Please go check out my sweet co-host!

Ash @ A Step in the Right Direction

If you're new to the link-up, please leave a comment!

Whew, these weeks are going quickly! I don't know where to begin! I'm in week 2 of bootcamp and things are going well! I've gotten used to waking up at 4:45 am three days a week. On Monday, my phone updated during the night and my alarm didn't go off. I ended up waking at 5:15 am which meant I wasn't going to make it to boot camp in time - instead of going back to bed, I marched my butt to the school gym for a 2 mile run and some weights! (and then I went to boot camp Tuesday to make up for it). I call that a personal victory!

Weigh In time: Down about 2 lbs from last week! But still stuck in the same 5 lbs that I've been losing and gaining for the last two months. Hopefully this is the start of something new...

My eating has been SOOOO much better lately - I've really been trying to reign it in this week. (but I still make room for my chocolate milk treat after boot camp!)

I forgot to mention, a couple weeks ago I ran my third 5K! My last 5k was July 4th which I ran in 35:45. This time, even in the cold & rain, I managed to reduce my time by 1:39! Slow and steady progress, right?

Ready to Run!

My next race is the Thanksgiving Day Race 10K! I hope I will survive it! I haven't run over 4 miles yet so I definitely need to be getting those long runs in the next three weeks! Hopefully this Boot Camp business will help me get through it! I'm really nervous.

Now it's wedding time! (I think I need to change this to Matrimony Monday or something! This is too much for one post).

I made a quick trip back to Cincinnati on Saturday afternoon because Nick and I had plans to meet with the priest and go to mass at the church we are looking at for the wedding. We'll probably be putting a deposit down there this week!

It's a very historic, gorgeous church at the top of a hill that overlooks the whole city! Perfect for us. I love how traditional Catholic churches are - I can't wait to start planning our Mass and doing our marriage prep! That will be the fun stuff :)

As for all other details, those will wait until Christmas Break!

Weigh IN Wednesday

Hello everybody! Welcome to Weigh-In Wednesday!

Please go check out my sweet co-hosts & make sure to say hi!

Bailey @ Being Bailey J
Ash @ A Step in the Right Direction

Another week has come and gone! I'm already in my 9th week of school which means I'm 1/2 way done with this semester! And I still feel like I know NOTHING! And I still feel like I'm struggling to keep my head above water. And I feel like I'm trying to rescue 3 struggling children (school, family/friends, and other commitments) at the same time...ok, this metaphor is going nowhere fast. Anyway...

So Weigh In Wednesday - back down to -21 lbs (I've been up the past few weeks). I decided to do a modified Advocare 24 Day Challenge (I didn't buy all the products...too expensive!) So I've eliminated as much processed food, dairy, alcohol, white floor, and other less clean foods as I can (I still allow a little dairy here and there but I've significantly reduced the amount of cheese/yogurt/milk I'm taking in). I'm hoping to jump start my weight loss again and get past this plateau while also getting ready for my upcoming races and clearing up my stressed out skin!  How is it possible for me to still have the skin of a 13 year old? Last week my face just exploded! I'm sure the stress isn't helping but I definitely think reducing dairy and gluten will help (these stimulate inflammatory responses in many people) - if it doesn't I'm planning a trip to the derm over winter break anyway.

I'll keep you all updated on the 24 Day Challenge - right now I'm doing the 10 Day Cleanse portion which is what I did over the summer. I ended up losing about 8-9 lbs (and keeping it off) so I'm confident I'll have good results again. I've already down about 3 lbs since Sunday when I started! I'm heading into exam week soon so hopefully I can keep it up!

Going with the theme of alliteration, today is my own personal Wedding Wednesday! I'll update you on how wedding planning is going and just briefly check in!

Wedding Planning: I'm going back to Cincinnati this weekend to see some venues and hopefully sit down with the priest at the church we want and nail down a date! Obviously, I can't do a whole lot of planning if I don't have a date in mind so once we have that finalized I think things will really start falling into place. The goal with all this planning is to keep it SIMPLE. Nick and I aren't big ballroom, fancy dinner type people - we are definitely going for a rustic, laid-back feel for the entire wedding. I don't want to share too many details just yet until we get the venue and date settled but I'm excited to start talking some details!
